Gray Market Designs

Here is another great collection of hand crafted home textiles that I found through Great.ly (I’m getting quite obsessed with it). Gray Market was born when the textile designer and founder Hallie Gray visited India and fell in love with their hand crafted and painted textiles that are imperfect enough to be perfect!

Gray Market Designs

I am personally drawn towards their homeware and tableware textiles since I am not a big fan of wearing scarves but they too, are worth loving. Each piece is carefully designed and hand crafted using traditional techniques. I love their colors and patterns – they are so appealing and beautiful. Neutral tones, warm shades and small scale patterns are quite enough reasons for me to die for.

Gray Market Designs

I always had a soft corner for neutral tones and softer warm or cool shades primarily because of their not being heavy on eyes and soothing on your senses but my friends often refer this taste of mine as being colorless and boring! Often shopping together, they look at me in amazement  – “Good God! You’re not eighty years old, why do you pick such boring things. See that one, that looks pretty bright and colorful.” What they don’t understand then, but later is that boring thing is a perfect canvas to dress up with bright colors and happy textures in your own very way. It has more potential that the brighter one, though that brighter piece has its own charm and beauty but I love to leave a little room for personalization, I guess. Every great piece of art starts with a clean canvas, right? Does that make any sense?

Apart from the colors, the textures too, make a great eye-loving combination with neutral colors. They create great interest for eyes and yet again, packed with lots of potential for personalization.

But I still love listening to my friends and learn from their perspective of colors and designs, the way they see them. It expands my sense of colors and taste in making choices and I learn to love colors as the deserve to be loved because this design world is a such an amazing magical place – each design has an inspiration behind it – each color has a mood to create – and each pattern has a story to tell. And Gray Market is a wonderful combination of all three.

Colors that Caught a Random Eye

Being a huge fan of neutral tones, warm shades and natural elements, I still do sometimes get out of my comfort zone and treat myself with a sweet dose of beautiful colors that charge up a room with happy energy and; if blessed with good light, they become a blessing and make a room filled with love and affection even when the hues are not too bright.

Creative “Adrift in my Mind”

I am nothing but admiring this amazing adrift in Brianna Land’s mind! Oh yes. I found her through Great.ly which is my new favorite spot to look for inspiring ideas and know about great new artists and designers who are living their dreams as creatives. Brianna Land is an artist who works in reclaimed wood and makes gorgeous wall art pieces with it. She works under business name “Adrift in my Mind” and also owns an Etsy shop though I found her through Great.ly as I mentioned and she is a favorite with many tastemakers there. Happens with great work!

I don’t write this blog for sake of commercialization – and so whatever product or artist I write about is the one whose work I truly admire and would like to bring home. This makes this blog a journal of ideas that I gather up for my own little-nook-of-heaven-on-earth. Only time will tell how good I’d be at decorating and bringing the best out of it.

I have been deeply inspired by the country style of living lately. Those natural elements, simple arrangements, and neutral palettes give your senses and eyes a little break and space to unwind and being close to the nature and Brianna’s work seems to do just that. It’s not only creative, but it is also artistic, and neutral enough to fit into any style of decorating – seriously, it could add up to an amazing gallery wall and I am imagining a great collection of art in the kitchen using her pieces, though they would do great in an entry as well.

Crush: White Pottery

White pottery is one of the few things that I can’t make myself ignore these days. The so very idea never appealed to me before as now. I am being so inspired by the sophistication and texture and I even found myself enjoying looking at white pottery at a store last week. I wish I could have taken a few pictures of the pieces that they had but it was not allowed in there – so the ones that are reading this have nothing but to believe my word that they had a few pieces to die for — like a kettle with two teacups, and a pair of large coffee mugs that I would’ve used as centerpiece for dinner dressed up with blooms. They would have added an air of sophisticated taste to the whole arrangement. I also loved their tea kettles which were great to serve double both as vases and coffee.

Simple Things: Arranging the Flowers

Spring always has a special place in one’s heart because its associated with the arrival of nature’s most beautiful and lovely creation – flowers. They are such a sweet note on nature’s part – after a dry and boring winter (well, it has its own charms) there lies all kinds of beautiful shades of happiness and laughter in form of flowers and blooms. They are like sweet free spirits that come out of the moist scented soil and say hello to the sunshine and send out love to every living soul.

Style Me Pretty

Flowers are the best ornament for any home and the best gift for any occasion and spring is the best time that brings a lot of opportunities to play with these little pretty blossoms making a lot of bouquets and arrangements for every day. They just bring a vase full of life in a room.

I’ve been in much less practice when it comes to making flower arrangements (did I just made a confession?!) but I think its a beautiful craft that every home owner should know and can make use of any day. Any day is a good day to bring flowers home, right? And it doesn’t have to be complicated – I mean an arrangement can be simple and gorgeous rather than being large and complicated and being made with lots of flowers with lots of time spent on. So I thought, in honor of spring, lets gather up a few tips to make flower arrangements that anyone can do easily and be happy in their heart because whatever you do, its that happiness and sense of accomplishment that matters at the end of the day which is shown in one’s eyes; and which lies in the most simple things around us.

1. Create layers. Its the easiest way of putting together an arrangement. Starting with stems at the corners of a vase or bowl and work towards the center with focal large flowers first and then filling in with smaller ones.

2. Use flowers in odd number of colors. This is something that pros usually tell but it somehow seems to work perfectly though I don’t really know the reason behind (another confession!). But it’s well as long it works. So, use flowers in odd numbers both in color and quantity and see how pretty it looks.

3. Less is more. Its so true even when it comes to arranging flowers – it just takes a jar, a vase or even a bottle and a couple of blooms; or sometimes even just one. It the simplest of all and the prettiest of all as well. This is something that you need to try in order to understand what beauty lies in it.

4. Turn the vase. Though, its more than common sense but the truth is that we sometimes forget going to the basics and this is going to the basics – keep turning the vase in order to see how the whole thing looks from every angle; unless its a special one that needs to look a bit different from different angles.

Tropicals: A Colorful Treat

Enter a room with bright hues, fun vibes, happy prints, floral fabrics, casual accents and textures to die for – be known the inspiration behind is tropical!

Tropical color inspiration

Lauren Conrad

Its the sweetest spoonful of colors in a room – bright hues who live opposite of each other on a color wheel, get together to make a place look more vibrant and alive. Tropical colors are the happiest of all and with the Sun embracing with warmth and shine, they look even more beautiful together against a neutral base and pretty natural elements to tone down the overall effect – and so they are making their place to the surface on my mind.

Being inspired and decorating with tropical colors is all about putting the color rules to a side for a while, listen to your heart’s song and play with all kinds of happy shades to your heart’s content.

Calm and subtle neutrals provide a perfect base for brighter tones and along with other natural elements like houseplants, wicker, and warm wood – this whole affair becomes a romantic one. I did just said that! A romantic affair is being true in your heart with freely expressing what brings happiness to your heart and tropical colors are indeed a free expression of it…
