Little Handmade Notes To Say Something Special

Because holiday season is going to start across the world in a few more weeks… and because my birthday has just passed a week ago(!), I think its the best time to start thinking and talking about gifts. And with that, I am totally into the idea of putting up little handmade notes on gifts and presents for loved ones. I think I should start learning a bit about hand lettering – its fun, its creative, its personal and its easy. Well, not that much but I can surely give it a try. Its such a cute way to say something nice and meaningful.

Long time ago, during school days, I always loved giving personal touches to presents for my friends’ birthdays – like showing up at their places with homemade cakes or giving them little surprise gifts , you know, the ones that they would open and go rolling-on-the-floor-laughing kind. It was so much fun! And in return, I used to get the best surprises – not to mention birthday bumps right in the middle of the street. Those days! MEMORIES! Just last month, one of my best friends and I were talking about one such occasion and laughing as if years never mattered.

But now, times have changed. Life has taken a different course for everyone… taking some of  them to far off places. But thankfully, the connection is still there and WhatsApp and skype always come handy, so we are not so close but still close enough to talk about times.

Times have changed indeed but I still love to pass on personal messages to my old and dear friends and they always expect and look forward to what I would be saying to them this year. I too, always look forward to say something special to them. Worth waiting!

And then, there are times when distance doesn’t matter… little handmade notes attached to a gift are such a beautiful way to say something special. Well… well… there isn’t always a need for an occasion for that, is it?

I love those smiles and sparkling eyes when they see these notes even before they open the gift.

The best part is…. sometimes, people save those notes for years as a token of love to remember those days… that were as normal as any other but were special in a way. How little things bring happiness!

Simple Table Setting for Fall Dinners

As I think of a gathering for dinner on a quiet chilly evening in the fall – I see a warm and quiet living room… dim lights… cozy layers… spicy scents and across the room… a beautiful dining room with simple table setting – and gosh! that aroma coming out of that kitchen door! Yes, the real winner on a dinner night is the food indeed but – how a dinner table is set and decorated is no less important and there is so much pleasure in doing it and so much creativity.

I’ve been stalking for inspiration, moods, themes, colors and creative ideas to set a dinner table for fall and winter too because it’ll be here in no time (I can’t wait for winter to arrive), but every time I find something good and interesting enough an idea to try, I always come down to simplicity. Imagine a simply decorated dining table, candle lights and good food – did I mention the aroma? I just love the smell of hot traditional food. Is there a match to this combination, I think not.

This simple yet elegant dinner table above is making me fall for it again and again. It would look so lovely in summers but with little changes here and there it will definitely go for fall and even winters too. This gets so many ideas to popping in my head already.

And of course, since simple things are the merriest… small note tags on gifts are making a special corner in my heart… I’ll be sharing a little post about them in a while…

Falling in love with the Sunshine

It so happened the other day that I was looking for inspiration on Instagram, which has been my favorite place to go lately, and I fell in love with the sunshine coming in from these windows. It was obvious!

We are already a month into fall but the days are still warm here – warm enough that you can’t sit outside in the morning with a book or a knitting project or maybe invite a friend over coffee to sit on the patio and talk about all the good things in the world. I so look forward to do all these little full-of-joy things but I guess we’ll have to wait for a few more weeks. It won’t be long…

That makes me think a lot about fall dinners… everyone else is talking about them on their blogs and it gets me inspired. I’d be sharing a little about simple table scape in a while… but for now… that can wait too.

I can instantly fall for any space that has good natural light and ventilation, actually I can’t practically without them. Speaking of that, I’ve lived all my life in homes that had plenty of both and I can’t be more grateful. And as I write these words, I’m glad that I can see outside a large window of my bedroom and admire plus soak up the gorgeous sunshine.

“Good natural light and ventilation in a space are as good as food”

Living in a happy space (yes, I call a space happy if it has good light and air) brings so much clarity of mind. It does in my case. I truly love to spend a few minutes that I could steal in between household chores to sit by the window with a cup of tea and newspaper or a book and enjoy the calmness and stillness in the moment. Well, a lot of times this includes catching up on a few latest posts from blogs I love. It gives me a space and moment to think about what I’ve read and absorb all the love those stories share…. to imagine and feel what made these stories come into being… what inspired them…

I do a lot of thinking while I’m doing the dishes and sometimes get my best ideas too.

So, yes, I would love to be in all those spaces doing whatever I love doing at the moment and let the sunlight do its magic. It’s obvious!
