Color Crush: White, Peach and Brown

It happens so often that something you’ve already seen many a times still catches your eye when you see it next time – and makes you smile. Its called admiration. This oh-so-gorgeous color combination of white, peach and brown does that whenever I come across and certainly when I saw this image here, it just made me smile – for two obvious reasons; firstly the colors of course, and second I happen to be a cat loving person for as long as I can remember. Yes, I’ve grown up in a house full of cats and kittens and though I don’t have a cat now in my home, my love for meows is still on the same level.

Color: A Mystery to Fall in Love With

Color is a mystery; as beautiful as anything could be. The more we learn about color, the more it unfolds, and the more it becomes interestingly complicated – hence, another mystery.

Tone-on-tone decorating

Pinterest

As I spent the weekend reading about color and its basics, I fell in love with decorating using tone-on-tone color. Imagine how interesting it would be to decorate with different shades of just one when you have hundreds to choose from. When on one side, creating palettes with two or more colors could be fun, playing around with shades of just one color is even more interesting.

Its a little tricky to decide if you could just go with tone-on-tone color in a space or not, because if at all it turns out to be wrong (!), the space could become as boring as anything could be. But yet again, if done rightly, imagine how gorgeous that space would look – as gorgeous as anything could be.

Getting Acquainted with Coral!

Coral is such a great color – with a lot of passion and energy at its core. But I am one of those who would have to think twice before start playing decorating with it because I am more for cool and calm color palettes with subtle and happy feeling but with a character. I don’t feel comfortable in places that have a lot of high energy colors or high contrast tones, though they are great to live with for those who are kind-of highly ambitious and energetic or maybe hyperactive, so to say.

So I thought of getting out of my comfort zone for a while and get a healthy dose of inspiration of color using coral. Sometimes, exercises like this are great for people who love art and craft of any kind because there is always something for them to learn and take away from these exercises, plus as a bonus, there is always a new idea or inspiration that can help getting better in your own way. It can always give you confidence to come up with something great that might be a sweet surprise for yourself – besides, its a great way to let your imaginations go free.

Coral has a beautiful sense of attraction – and a lot of character in it. In bright hue; it goes from sophisticated to glamorous. Talk about style and class! But if used in a pale and soft tone; it works great as an interesting neutral base! A perfect spot for fun to get started. Its a great source of inspiration to make a statement both ways…

Sometimes coral looks like it has a feminine touch; well it has, but then again mixed in a small amount with grey and navy, I imagine a great palette that could work for everyone with added value of textural accents and plants to create a balance.

Its a happy color – coral! Adds a right amount of interest in a boring room and the best thing is; it goes with a lot of colors which makes it an even better choice for those like me who use hues carefully not to make a space yelling at with colors.

Colors that Caught a Random Eye

Being a huge fan of neutral tones, warm shades and natural elements, I still do sometimes get out of my comfort zone and treat myself with a sweet dose of beautiful colors that charge up a room with happy energy and; if blessed with good light, they become a blessing and make a room filled with love and affection even when the hues are not too bright.

Tropicals: A Colorful Treat

Enter a room with bright hues, fun vibes, happy prints, floral fabrics, casual accents and textures to die for – be known the inspiration behind is tropical!

Tropical color inspiration

Lauren Conrad

Its the sweetest spoonful of colors in a room – bright hues who live opposite of each other on a color wheel, get together to make a place look more vibrant and alive. Tropical colors are the happiest of all and with the Sun embracing with warmth and shine, they look even more beautiful together against a neutral base and pretty natural elements to tone down the overall effect – and so they are making their place to the surface on my mind.

Being inspired and decorating with tropical colors is all about putting the color rules to a side for a while, listen to your heart’s song and play with all kinds of happy shades to your heart’s content.

Calm and subtle neutrals provide a perfect base for brighter tones and along with other natural elements like houseplants, wicker, and warm wood – this whole affair becomes a romantic one. I did just said that! A romantic affair is being true in your heart with freely expressing what brings happiness to your heart and tropical colors are indeed a free expression of it…

Decorating the Bookcase – Playing with Colors

Color is a nothing but a blessing that we can’t be more thankful to Nature for! The sweetest of spices in life – it brings out the beauty in just about anything.

I hardly mentioned color in my last post here when I was talking about arranging bookcases. But the truth is that it is as important in decorating bookcases as a whole room in a home. Meaning thereby – there are certain rules of color when it comes to decorating and styling a bookcase and it all starts right from the beginning; when you’re selecting a bookcase!

Pick out the one that goes with most of the color schemes used in your home. It might be moving around the house (if its not a built-in) every year from living room to bedroom or most probably to the home office. It has to be something that could fit in easily.

Though, the built-ins are becoming more and more popular with the home owners but they couldn’t be a favorite with the rentals… keeping all possibilities at hand never disappoints one. However, there is always plenty of inspiration that built-ins, beautifully decorated and styled could provide.

House to Home

Sticking with a consistent color scheme is always a safe choice and in case of bookcases, it becomes a much fun practice. Starting off with two main colors, add in a neutral one and add layers in small pops of color. I presume this recipe would do good with the ones who are just trying their hands on layering and styling in a small space. The smaller the space; the more challenging it is to tell a story with all the details. I believe; and that too with all my heart that decorating a bookcase is like telling a story with characters, colors and images that indeed exhibit sense of taste and love of the decorator…

Crush: Spring Color Palette

I was browsing through Pinterest yesterday, and oh my, my feed was like choked with pins from Anthropologie! I haven’t visited their website as yet but I think they have launched lots of new summer collections and look books in many categories and that too, with the most amazing things both in home and fashion; well these two are my point of interest for now so I seriously need to go to their website for more and more inspiration and ideas. But before that, while I was at Pinterest, I saw this color palette from Better Homes and Gardens and fell crown-over-toes and to-the-moon-and-back in love with it. Its happy, its fresh, its energetic, its lively and it can be used in the simplest ways to create a space of your dreams. Its just a matter of a little brainstorming which my head is already busy doing so I might come up some pretty ideas to use this palette but before doing that I really need to save it for further reference because I might want to come back and look at it again and again!

Color palette -- spring inspiration

This palette-in-pretty is the creation of Courtney Singleton, an Interior Designer who named it Spring Renewal with a never-goes-wrong approach. How true! This palette is not newly created this year but it is new to me plus timeless and I find it absolutely gorgeous for a summer living room with large windows to welcome in a lot natural light making these colors happier together – in complete harmony with what lies outside your window, which is indeed the true reason of inspiration behind it.

I loved her approach; Courtney’s, when she said “nature never makes mistakes” because I myself am a true believer in that. Nature is the best source of inspiration and it never disappoints you when you ask for it!
