It feels Warm and Cozy

Every home has to have a warm and cozy living room no matter what. Period. Its the very go-to place to sit all day, relax and do whatever makes you happy – watch a movie, read a book, knit while your cat purrs by your side (that’s me!) or maybe just get yourself a good cup of hot chocolate and think about all the blessings around you (again me). Its so calm and quiet.

Our living rooms see a lot of us all day long and so, they are the perfect place to feel free to decorate them with all the love in your heart. They are even quite a place to make decorating mistakes if that makes you happy, but lets just leave that for another day and indulge in the warm and cozy colors of these living rooms.

Just a Little Note

There are times in life and quite often when one needs just a little reminder of the blessings that surround us everyday. Sometimes, we don’t even realize how much we are blessed with in every tiny moment of our lives. And when the realization struck… our breathe holds for a moment… because we loose count of all that we already have. I try to find a moment, stop and think of at least 10 things I already have and am grateful for everyday. Even the little things that go unnoticed in our daily lives come to surface in my mind and make me realize how important they are and how, since the first day, they have been there for me. This habit has made me come closer to my own self and know myself better in a strange way… I have started to feel more composed and above all it has given me inner peace and happiness. Happiness is… what matters most at the end of the day.

I love this idea of putting up little reminders like these around the house. They give a personal touch of love and gratitude… a reminder of a few great moments from the past… an acknowledgment of now and…. a hope for tomorrow. These little notes make a home a lovely and happy place to be… because then again… at the end of the day… happiness is what matters the most.

Random Stories

I love to look at homes that are filled with handmade items. They share a lot of visual stories – when you don’t need words… the mere feeling says it all. Having a lot of handmade items under one roof is like a beautiful combination of imaginations of different people. To me it’s like a wonderland – where taste and creation intersect.

Every crafted piece has an imagination behind it. It could be a hundred things that could have inspired it, but the creation is not possible without imagination. And imagination never comes into existence without feeling – as they say so. It is the feeling that combines with a great taste in the eye and inspired by another imagination that the beautiful craft finds a forever-home.

And so another chapter is added to the visual stories that such a home tells…

Crush: Farmhouse Style Bedrooms

I like the idea of farmhouses – they have just the kind of look that makes me feel like I’m on a dream vacation. A calm and quiet place with lots of natural light, neutral tones, airy furnishings with lots of natural accents. The whole place works like food for your nerves. Whenever I see a cottage or farmhouse style home, I’m instantly drawn to it for the good reasons. Maybe that’s because I’ve always lived in quiet places that had healthy ventilation surrounded by green lawns, plus our home was never over stuffed with furniture and decorative things. My mom was always very concerned about home being clean just about the right amount of decor.

Crush: White Pottery

White pottery is one of the few things that I can’t make myself ignore these days. The so very idea never appealed to me before as now. I am being so inspired by the sophistication and texture and I even found myself enjoying looking at white pottery at a store last week. I wish I could have taken a few pictures of the pieces that they had but it was not allowed in there – so the ones that are reading this have nothing but to believe my word that they had a few pieces to die for — like a kettle with two teacups, and a pair of large coffee mugs that I would’ve used as centerpiece for dinner dressed up with blooms. They would have added an air of sophisticated taste to the whole arrangement. I also loved their tea kettles which were great to serve double both as vases and coffee.

Decorating the Bookcase – The Inspiration

I don’t remember when I started to love reading books since there are not many keen readers in my family, so I certainly can’t relate how I got the habit — only that I am happy to have it and then writing and the love of decorating joined the list of my affections.

Being new to fundamentals and principles of decorating and I’m never shy to mention that I’m learning because the first rule, so to say is to be aware of being ignorant and be open to all the knowledge that comes your way and could help you with whatever it is that you wish to learn; I thought I should definitely gather up a few ideas and tips of decorating bookcases. Much fun! They are a perfect canvas for playing and experimenting with your creative guts.

Bookcase decorating and styling

Bookcases are like a child’s drawing book. They can be filled with amazing stories and styled with color, personality and character. They give you all the freedom to open up your heart and bring out the best of your imaginations and then, before you know it, you can turn on the page – take everything out of it and start all over again with a new inspiration and concept – only to tell an entirely different story.

That’s how lovely designing and decorating bookcases are. Having said that, I’d love to spend this week gathering up simple ideas and tips to decorate and style a bookcase, so that when I design and decorate my own, I’ll have some tips at hand.

Inspiration – Window Seat

I happen to be reading a lot these days, which makes natural light my new best friend and one thing that I miss a lot in my home these days is – a window seat! Yes, really, I seriously need one. And when I explore different inspiring ideas on Pinterest, it seems there is nothing in the world easier than that – Push a bench or day bed against a window, throw on a mattress, add a pretty cover and stalk it with pillows! Viola!

Even a loveseat can do the job in the most certain manner! Having a fancy built-in could be ideal but what if you don’t feel like spending that much or maybe you couldn’t afford, or even you just want a simple set up that could be easily moved to another place at another point of time…? I  mean who knows, there could be so many reasons for not having an expensive installation; like being in a rental maybe. In that case, I believe the best option is finding ways of making a temporary arrangement and not having a fixed installation, like a loveseat. It can be made look pretty as anything!

Decorating and adding accessories like a small book case or an end table to house your current read and your coffee are like a matter of time. The space would grow organically with time depending upon the use and need of the nook. But the point is it should be useful and happy to your heart’s content and even if you’re going to have an idea of your own, there is plenty of inspiration to accompany along the way.

Textured in; Lovely Shades of Gray

I spotted this gorgeous room corner over at Pinterest and instantly wanted to have it in my home. Its the kind of spot that I was just talking about yesterday; remember? Well, its a different one but its so simple, quiet, warm and cozy; a place where you can sit for some quiet time to do a light meditation maybe or just relax by the window with a book, natural light and a great view. It must be a wonder that I just mentioned meditation, but I think I’ll get back to it some other time…

Decorating with Gray

Moods change – and for good! Its a law of nature and Mother Nature follows this rule every few months because that is the sweetness of life and so we get to see so many moods in days – sunny, or rainy, or cold breeze, then weeks under white snow or maybe just gray. But if the moods don’t change; all flavors and excitement from our lives will go away and that is the last thing that anyone could want. When in home, it could always be a good start (and challenging too) taking baby steps in getting out of your comfort zone and trying something that is unusual but makes you happy from time to time. Surely there are things that don’t interest us always but even then, they seem to draw our attention after weeks, change our mood and be refreshing. This room, all in gray could be a little offset but its a great place to let go of love of color and contrast and think out of the box for a while.

Colors are so important in our lives and in our homes; they drive our moods, make us happier and make our homes look full of life. But change is always good. Sometimes, making neutral choices in color could be more subtle and calm both for eyes and mind because a home is where peace is. And nevertheless that can be made interesting – with textures. Its not boring though.

This peaceful nook makes me love neutral gray tones more. Decorated in tone-on-tone gray with textures and character! The textures! I love the way how they have been used to keep a balance for the eye to move from the wall, to the chair; then the rug, to the ottoman and flowers and focuses on that cushion. That cushion is really interesting. Its a great way to work with one color, bringing in accents inspired by the nature. And I particularly admire the curtains in this space – they have a lovely swirl-y and geometric pattern that makes everything more interesting. Its a magical place to spend some time away and be yourself.
