Here is another great collection of hand crafted home textiles that I found through Great.ly (I’m getting quite obsessed with it). Gray Market was born when the textile designer and founder Hallie Gray visited India and fell in love with their hand crafted and painted textiles that are imperfect enough to be perfect!
I am personally drawn towards their homeware and tableware textiles since I am not a big fan of wearing scarves but they too, are worth loving. Each piece is carefully designed and hand crafted using traditional techniques. I love their colors and patterns – they are so appealing and beautiful. Neutral tones, warm shades and small scale patterns are quite enough reasons for me to die for.
I always had a soft corner for neutral tones and softer warm or cool shades primarily because of their not being heavy on eyes and soothing on your senses but my friends often refer this taste of mine as being colorless and boring! Often shopping together, they look at me in amazement – “Good God! You’re not eighty years old, why do you pick such boring things. See that one, that looks pretty bright and colorful.” What they don’t understand then, but later is that boring thing is a perfect canvas to dress up with bright colors and happy textures in your own very way. It has more potential that the brighter one, though that brighter piece has its own charm and beauty but I love to leave a little room for personalization, I guess. Every great piece of art starts with a clean canvas, right? Does that make any sense?
Apart from the colors, the textures too, make a great eye-loving combination with neutral colors. They create great interest for eyes and yet again, packed with lots of potential for personalization.
But I still love listening to my friends and learn from their perspective of colors and designs, the way they see them. It expands my sense of colors and taste in making choices and I learn to love colors as the deserve to be loved because this design world is a such an amazing magical place – each design has an inspiration behind it – each color has a mood to create – and each pattern has a story to tell. And Gray Market is a wonderful combination of all three.
